"Oh my God, they're Gringoes!!!!"

It is Sunday night at 10 pm here in Brasilia and as I type this I am listening to the parade out my window. It has been going on for about 2 hours, and I have a sneaking suspension that there is another 2 hours to go. Why on a Sunday night though, cause it's Carnaval baby! Starting Friday night and until Wednesday of this week all of Brazil is on full out party mode!

I think it is safe to say that Brasilia is not known for being the epicenter of Carnaval like Rio and Salvador are but there have been a couple of parades here and there. Last night, we went downtown where one of the parades was and enjoyed the costumes that people were wearing. Kids as their favorite Disney characters, Men dressed as women, and anything you could really

imagine were front and center. When we first were heading downtown I kind of wished I had a mask. However, we quickly realized that we were like our own 4 woman, 1 man, freak-show parade. We were asked on several occasions if we were gringoes. One guy even passed us and could be heard screaming to his buddy, "Oh my God, they're Gringoes!!" We came to the conclusion that people thought we were vacationing here for Carnaval. They were probably thinking those poor schmucks thought they were coming to Brazil for Carnaval but they came to the wrong city! haha!
According to my friend, Marcelo, this lady is dressed like a woman who said she was pregnant with 4 babies however, it turned out she was pregnant with none. It is evidently a popluar Carnaval costume.

No words!
